The Street Department has the most numerous and varied responsibilities of any department in Public Works. They are primarily responsible for:

  • Street patching and paving
  • Ditch and catch basin cleaning
  • Street sweeping
  • Street signs and crossings
  • Street painting of traffic lines, parking, crosswalks, etc.
  • Parks maintenance
  • Public restroom maintenance and cleaning
  • Airport maintenance
  • Cemetery maintenance

Combine those activities with keeping the beach clean, trash pick-up from over 80 public receptables around town, storm debris removal, sanding and de-icing, and accident clean-up and you can see why the Street Department is so busy.  The Street Department is very involved with support for our special events in town and to provide necessary assistance for the Miss Oregon Pageant, Hood to Coast Relay, Beach Volley Ball, Wheels & Waves, and many others.

PARKS

The Parks Department is overseen by a seven member advisory committee appointed by City Council. The committee was installed at the direction of the City's Parks Master Plan adopted in 2004.  The Sunset Empire Recreation District (SEPRD) is a separate taxing district that offers recreation, fitness, and health activities within the City.  As a result, the Parks Department is only responsible for the maintenance, planning, and minor construction at the City's parks.  These parks include community parks at Cartwright Park, Quatat Park, Seltzer Park, the oceanfrom Promenade and Turnaround, the Gateway Park at the Estuary, the Mill Ponds Park, and Broadway Park, home to varsity football and baseball, playgrounds, picnic facilities, canoe launch, the Skate and Ride Park, and the SEPRD Aquatic Center fan facilities.
