Tsunami Warning System
NOTICE TO SEASIDE RESIDENTS & VISITORS
On Wednesday, May 2nd, Seaside residents and visitors will have a chance to take part in a City-wide Voluntary Tsunami Evacuation Drill which will begin at 11:00 am. The city’s public address system will make an announcement at the beginning of the drill. Once the drill begins, the emergency sirens will be activated and the city is encouraging voluntary evacuation practice for all those who wish to participate. The wavering siren will begin low and then modulate with an up and down pitch for three minutes.
Seaside School District 10 will also be participating with their own practice tsunami drills independently during the day. Prior to the drill, participants are encouraged to have personal emergency kits and evacuation supplies ready, be aware of appropriate evacuation routes and the location of tsunami safe zones. Once the sirens begin, participants should get to high ground as soon as possible. Please practice your evacuation route on foot. Don’t drive.
Local residents should have evacuation plans in place prior to the drill.
Visitors should also be aware of evacuation routes, business owners should educate their employees and patrons about evacuation procedures and lodging owners should make sure that their visitors know where the evacuation routes are located.
Additional information can be obtained at Seaside City Hall, 989 Broadway (503) 738-5511.
