NOAA Weather Radios

NOAA Weather Radios transmitters broadcast continual local warnings, watches and forecasts from the nearest National Weather Service Office. The NOAA frequencies operate outside of the normal AM/FM frequencies, and require special receivers such as these radios. Per City ordinance weather radio transmitters are required in all new residences and vacation rentals, but all homes would benefit from having this radio on hand.  Radios in Clatsop County should be set to Channel 1 to pick up our local transmitter, KEC 91 in Astoria.

NWR receivers can be purchased at many electronic retail stores, electronic departments within department stores, and some drug stores and on numerous on line sites. Prices generally start at $30.  The tone feature is recommended for Seaside Vacation Rental homes and to meet the building inspection requirement for new homes.
