Site Inspections

A site inspection is required prior to a VRD application being approved. All VRDs are required to substantially comply with Oregon State Requirements for Health, Safety, Building, and Fire Codes.

Common Inspection Issues

Common issues that are found during the site inspection that could prohibit a property from being approved for a VRD conditional use permit are:

  • Steps and stairs not meeting building codes.
  • Ceiling height on stairs not tall enough.
  • Missing guardrails or handrails.
  • Egress windows from sleeping areas not being large enough or not being openable.
  • Electrical hazards or exposed wiring.
  • Unpermitted remodel work or additions.
  • Presence of mold or other hazardous conditions.
