U.S. 101 Widening Project Begins

November 14, 2022 - ODOT began a widening project on U.S. 101 through Seaside from Avenue A through Avenue K on Monday November 7, 2022. The project will include the installation of a new center turn lane as well as two enhanced crosswalks with pedestrian activated flashing lights, a median refuge island, and advanced warning striping for cars to stop. The new crosswalks will be located north of Avenue B and south of Avenue F.

Along with improving drainage, updating traffic signs, and replacing pavement and striping, the project will improve bicycle and pedestrian facilities and install new curb ramps to ADA standards. Users should expect some traffic delays and evening lane closures while the construction takes place. The project is anticipated to be completed in 2024.

Further information and updates regarding this project can be found on ODOT's website.

$5.2 million project will upgrade intersection to reduce congestion

SALEM (June 7, 2022) – New signals and turn lanes are coming to U.S. 101 and Broadway, a busy intersection in Seaside. The $5.2 million effort is one of eight projects selected for the 2024-2027 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program’s “Enhance” funding. Projects in this category are aimed at improving safety and reducing congestion on some of Oregon’s busiest roadways.

The U.S. 101 – Broadway project will replace the signals, add turn lanes, install a transit stop and make other improvements to help traffic flow smoother along the route. Supporting a modern transportation system is a priority in ODOT's 2021-2023 Strategic Action Plan.

Background: The Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, or STIP, is the state’s regular project identification and funding program. Last year, the Oregon Transportation Commission allocated $65 million for the “Enhance” part of the 2024-2027 STIP, which will fund a total of $2.2 billion in projects. The commission required several factors to be considered in selecting projects, including those that improve safety, support multimodal accessibility, are equitable and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The commission also required at least 30 percent of the projects selected to be located outside of a Metropolitan Planning Organization boundary, recognizing the need to serve highway users in non-urban areas.
